Consultation & Supervision
I love helping fellow clinicians find their footing with difficult cases, break through plateaus in their clinical skills, strengthen their base of knowledge around particular types of cases and clients, and find renewed aliveness and authenticity in their work.
Professional Consultation
Areas where I can be particularly valuable to you include the following:
-
Including clients you don’t like (yes, it’s okay to admit that here.) These clients are…well…challenging, and you might find yourself creating emotional distance and letting conflict avoidance rule therapy. As someone who has spent time deep in the trenches of interpersonal process and trains other clinicians in using it, I can help you turn a case you dread into a rich opportunity for professional and personal growth.
-
Are you feeling ready to lean into here-and-now client work but (like most of us) were undertrained in this area? Uncertain of how to formulate effective relational interventions? Scared your clients will crumble the moment you offer any process commentary? I can help.
-
Therapists often feel their countertransference responses are a shameful secret - something to be shoved away. We are rarely taught that countertransference can be an important source of clinically relevant information that we can use to guide therapy. Sometimes, especially intense countertransference (including erotic countertransference) can force us to confront aspects of ourselves and our work we’d rather not look at. In my office, countertransference isn’t a dirty word. Instead, it’s something we will examine together - honestly - so we can hear what it’s telling you about where you need to go next.
-
If you practice a modality that works directly with clients’ traumatic memory content and you’re in the weeds, don’t worry - I love the weeds. Effectively working with traumatic memory content to get great clinical outcomes is my specialty.
-
Couples - especially highly therapized ones - can be very skilled at drawing their therapists into a dynamic that maintains the dysfunctional homeostasis they came to therapy to address in the first place. If you’re stalled out in your couples’ cases, I can help you conceptualize the impasse and find the pressure points to shift the dynamic very quickly. My couples work is informed by Dr. David Schnarch’s Crucible approach.
-
I also have extensive experience in working with bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, complex trauma and dissociative presentations, and clients on the autism spectrum in the private practice outpatient setting.
I’m available for one-off consultation appointments or for meeting on a regular basis, with no ongoing commitment required.
Your location isn’t a barrier - I can consult with clinicians anywhere in the world via my online video portal.
